Default Which campaign as Necro?

Ok since I first started to play online RPG look alike games with Diablo, magic fascinated me. When I played that game WoW for 2 years, my #1 character was a Mage. BUt when I got GW Prophesies and made an Ele, I realized that I had waay too much fireball throwing in my lifetime. Doesn't help that early Proph is such a bore (Factions and Nightfall are so much more fun).

So my dilemma is this: in which campaign should I make a Necromancer and experience the "Dark Side of the Force"? Thanks in advance (I plan to play as MM early on and then go hexes once I get a better grasp of the class).

factions. as long as you understand the game mechanics already you dont need to waste time on pre searing. and as for your build start with hexes, not MM. you just dont have the attribute points to play a MM until around lvl 16.

You can enjoy playing a Necro in any of the campaigns - it just depends on which setting you enjoy more. If you don't like Pre-Searing, try Factions as suggested above.

If you like using minions, go for it. There's plenty of time to hone your build down the road - nothing is etched in stone.

I have to disagree on this part. Playing an MM at a low level is very disappointing. you can only sustain a few minions, and they do little to no damage. this can easily discourage someone from continuing with the class.

It depends on the individual and how they work with the minions they have. In the beginning, a few minions can help you quite a bit defensively. You won't be a minion factory early on, but you can still use them with relative success. If you have a real desire to use them, and some aptitude, you can certainly get it working from day one.

Factions ftw as necro...SV go! ohh and flesh golem if you want...

As for mming early on...it's the first island we're talking about here..low level mins will be good enough

MMing is a viable option throughout your character growth, although early on Minions will have to be just one part of the bar you get when the trainers are handing out skills. At least what i found with my Necro MM was that each level up made me more excited to up my death magic a bit more, make my minions stronger and of course up my minion cap.

Also, I've seen this done several times, if you're tenacious enough you can get yourself a Death Magic scar and a Superior DM rune early on and have a +4 on you throughout it all.

I just made a nightfall necro and have to say it was a mistake. Nightfall doesnt have many necro elites, and even then they are near the endgame in high level areas. After looking at the more popular necro elites (ss, sl, sv, bip, etc..etc) I would go prophecies. Alot of the skill trainers have alot of skills used in most base builds, and nearly all the elite caps are midway/endgame.

I dont own factions so....

My necro is prophesies, why? Well becasue then he doesn't look butt ugly.
I haven't even gotten him to the ring of fire yet, but I do have nighfall and factions finished on him.
On the other hand, my assassin hasn't even reached House Zu Helter yet, but has tangled with the Lich King already.

This is a joke right?
Even with an insanely small investment in death (as it happens when one is of low level) - a MM is able to pretty much double the party. EVERYONE is of insanely low level - from the player, to the hench, foes and minions - so it's insane having 8ish "allies" (team + minions) under your control in areas where the foes are designed to annoy parties of 4!
This is where god mode of the MM happens!

As always in PvE - go with the campaign that has the looks you like best.

I've created Necros in all 3 campaigns to see how they worked, but the only one I kept is the one I started in Nightfall. IMO, he's not "butt-ugly" either, even though he wasn't created in Prophecies.

I love Prophecies but it's so tedious - getting to ascension .. what a process! Factions is fine. The only reason I deleted my Factions Necro was because I decided to keep the Nightfall character. The reason I made the Nightfall Necro was to see how a Necro handled the Difficulty Masters.

Trying to work with minions at low levels was kind of difficult in all 3 campaigns because a beginning Necro doesn't really have what it takes - energy or skills - to make them powerful enough to do much or to keep them alive. But it's certainly doable.

In Prophecies I just had my Necro keep the Ranger skills as a back-up so he could have the company of a pet while tooling around in Pre.

Cantha is the homeland of the MM. You also level up fast, starting a Necro in Prophecies was rather awful for me.

If you do not like the Canthan faces, I suggest a female necro, they were more to my liking than the male faces.

Really, Vizunah, the explorables and many other missions there scream "MM!". After you leveled up, I suggest going to Prophecies to get Olias and get a Elite Tome for SS or cap it yourself.

After a while of MMing, you want to do something different, and a SS/MM team is just great.

apparently none of you noticed the energy costs of summon spells? they are all 15+. how can you hope to efficently use these with only a few sould reaping. low-level MMing dosnt compare to low-level hexing

And then you repeat the thing?

But you are right.
Low level hexing doesn't compare to low level MMing.
Hexing is so much worse!
